Scientific Notation Project

Curated by: Kara Alhadeff

What: An investigative math project for students to further their understanding of scientific notation. This resource includes the explanation/questions of the project and a rubric. This project took students 3 lessons to complete and was best for secondary students.

Why: Understanding magnitude relative to our world deepens the mathematical understanding. Scientific notation can be hard to conceptual, so having this project makes it more applicable.
How: I implemented this as an assessment of learning in lieu of a traditional test! Students took two days to complete and presented their work to peers.
