Gapminder Project

Curated by: Kara Alhadeff

What: A project that applies statistics to understanding different topics due to student interest. This project was shared with me when I attended a Mathematics Modeling institute at Stanford by an educator named Anna Blinstein. In this resource you will find the explanation of the project, an example and how to assess the student work. This project takes 5 days to complete and is best for secondary students.

Why: It is important to make math relevant for our students. By assigning a self-selected project to apply statistical concepts allows for long lasting connections  and conceptual understanding. Students get practice working with large data, getting reps with professional taks.
How: Can use this as a unit assessment and/or an end of year project by adding more mathematical concepts to the assignment.
